Butler Gas supplies gaseous hydrogen in Pittsburgh, with purity levels certified to 99.999%.
In addition to filling hydrogen cylinders and banks (cradles of 12 or 16 cylinders), our fleet delivers hydrogen tube trailers. Hydrogen gas is authorized for bulk highway shipment in tube trailers at pressures to approximately 2600 psig. These trailers are constructed of a number of large horizontally mounted tubes built to DOT and TC specifications. The tubes are manifolded together to a common header with valves installed on each tube.
Hydrogen is colorless, odorless, tasteless, flammable, and nontoxic. It exists as a gas at ambient temperatures and atmospheric pressure. It is the lightest gas known, with a density of approximately 0.07 times that of air. Hydrogen burns in air with a pale blue, almost invisible flame. Common uses include chemicals production, heat-treating, welding and cutting, fuel cells, glass manufacturing, oil refining, semiconductor manufacturing, electrical power generation, and nuclear power plant operations.
