Yes, we made the photo…
A recent Safety Meeting brought plenty of laughs—and a lot of appreciation—when
our Vice President, Jim, and our Director of Safety & Compliance, Adam, surprised our
Penn Hills Manager, Joe Murphy, with this funny AI-generated tribute photo of him
wrestling a propane cylinder. Framed and all! Why? Because if anyone in the Butler Gas
family could take a propane tank to the mat and win, it’s Coach Joe.
Joe is a long-standing, well-known wrestling coach in Oakmont. He is someone who
knows how to keep things moving, keep people focused, and deliver when it counts.
A few months ago, right before the record snowstorm hit our region, Joe brought that same
“coach energy” straight to the propane dock.
The Day Pittsburgh Stocked Up
As local Pittsburghers prepped for the incoming winter weather, Joe led what can only be
described as a single-handed propane clinic:
- 65+ retail customers served in 8 hours
- 112 cylinders filled
- A record propane sales day, powered by one determined pro
He was steady, upbeat, and fast, helping customers get what they needed and get safely
back on the road before the storm hit.
Joe: thank you for the hustle, the leadership, and the way you show up for our customers
and our community when it matters most. Your student athletes are lucky to have you, and
so are we!

Quick Propane Heater Safety Reminders
Since propane is on everyone’s mind this time of year, here are a few simple, high-impact
safety tips for portable propane heaters:
- Smell gas? Don’t light it. If you detect propane’s odor, stop and follow the heater
manufacturer instructions before doing anything else. - Never use outdoor propane heaters indoors or in enclosed spaces.
- Shut the heater off before moving it. Moving an operating heater can create an
unsafe situation. - Keep heaters out of foot traffic and away from exits (the guidance is at least 5 feet
from exits). - Never store propane cylinders indoors — store them upright, outside, and well
ventilated.
